Atomic Records is closing in February. Not only is it my favorite record store, it’s also a landmark of the city. They always have the really good obscure stuff you can’t find anywhere else. I've been relying on their weekly e-mailed newsletters to inform me of new releases and shows around here, which will be as sorely missed as the place itself.

I’ll definitely have to get over there this month while they’re having 20% off and see what posters and vinyl they’ve got. It’s just really a shame to see such a well-liked, independently owned record store go as a result of the economy and file sharing.

weird that file sharing, of all things, would affect a specialty retailer. (the great brick-and-mortar store here, apop records, is doing just fine.) even a recession doesn't usually affect these places, so it saddens me that the ol' Atomic is closing before i ever got to check it out. c'est la vie...
