Late as usual, here are some shots from the Ducks tour I went on with my parents in the Wisconsin Dells a few weeks ago. (For those of you who don’t know, Ducks are amphibious vehicles used in WWII and the Korean War that now give scenic tours of the area.) We were also supposed to go to Devil’s Lake, but the steady rain prevented that. I’ve been there before and on several Duck rides in the past, so it’s really not that big of a deal. After all, we found an outlet mall on the way home with a Coach store, so the day turned out just fine. ;)

Keep in mind these were taken from a moving vehicle while it was raining, so they’re definitely not the best photos I’ve taken.

The first set is after we went through the woods and into the Wisconsin River, which the state gets its name from as it flows from the border of Michigan down to the Mississippi River. The river has always been a very sacred place to the area’s native tribes, and I’m glad that it and the surrounding forest are protected by the state. These sandstone cliffs are only found here and in Germany and Switzerland:

Dad enjoying the scenery.

Creek connected to the river.

Lake Delton, which just reopened this summer. The entire lake had to be rebuilt after last year’s flood damage.

You can see where the damage was as it has been filled in with red granite rocks:

On one side of the highway, where the Wisconsin River flooded its banks.

Behold, the fail dam!

And on the other side of the road, there’s Lake Delton, where houses used to be before falling off their foundations into the lake. Also, no flood insurance for the lose!

Blurry photo is blurry. :/ I think some raindrops got on the lens, but I still wanted to show the cute little fawn that appeared after we went back into the forest. Its mother and sibling ran across the road before we arrived.
