Backpiece Progress: Session #15
Dec. 31st, 2009 01:42 amNumber of hours for this session: 2
Total number of hours tattooed so far: 40
Although I got this done at the beginning of the month, it took a couple weeks for the gray shading to calm down and I haven’t had the time to get a picture of it until now. The good news is that the grass is done! Lane also started on the sky/atmospheric background, which will be subtler as it moves upward. The blank spot near the peacock’s belly is where the foot is going, but Lane keeps being indecisive about the design, so who knows when that’ll finally be added. There will also be another cherry blossom on my upper left shoulder as well as some individual falling petals. It will definitely be interesting to see what Lane decides to work on tomorrow!
I was glad to hear that I wasn’t the only one who thought the pain was nearly unbearable from Lane’s new tattoo machine. He got so many complaints that he took it apart and is trying to reassemble it so it’s not as bad. Even he was concerned with how much blood and lymph were leaking out because I hardly bleed when I get tattooed. Since that one was out of order at the time, he used the least painful machine for this session, and it was such a relief that I took a light nap for about an hour. Then he started tattooing over a freshly shaded area and I was quite awake the rest of the time. I still had a really good day at the shop, since Scott and I talked about metal most of the time. It was nice to joke about black metal and make fun of Varg Vikernes’s rants with someone besides my sister for once. He also linked me to a local metal forum, and it pretty much confirmed that Milwaukee’s “metal scene” is non-existent outside of concerts and the majority of the people there don’t share my tastes.
Before you look at the pictures, I should probably mention that I’m testing out my new camera. The first picture was taken with the new 12 megapixel Olympus and the second was taken with my five-year-old 6 megapixel Canon PowerShot. Maybe I don’t have something set right on it, but the new one (which cost about the same as my old one) captures a lot less detail and the flash is really overpowering. I figured that a camera with twice as many megapixels would produce a much clearer image, but maybe Olympus is just crap compared to Canon. Both were set on auto flash, since they were taken indoors at night. I also used the new camera for the post with the two artist’s books and I think those photos turned out fine. However, that was in natural daylight with the flash off. It’s not really a big deal either way because it was a gift, but I have to say I’m kind of disappointed with it so far. Anyway, now that I’ve warned you, onto the good stuff!
