Thanks for all the info! This is exactly what I'm looking for. I pretty much figured Canon was the better brand, since the EOS Rebel seems to be consider the king among all digital 35mm cameras. I'll definitely play more with the flash and distance next time I have to take another photo after dark. I always take shots of my artwork while there is natural light for this reason.
